If you’re anything like me, you crave date nights where the food and wine are as killer as your little black dress. And let’s face it, it’s been too long since your last date night and it’s about time you did it up fancy. For an evening and dinner you’ll never forget, look no further than The Capital Grille.
We left our car with the exemplary valet service, a must – not only because it saves you from circling the lot during Rookwood’s bustling dinner scene, but because you’re doing this night out right.
Once inside, we were greeted by an array of friendly hostesses and our sever assistant, who led us past the beautiful, full bar and a private work gathering to our romantic table in the main dining area.
The mood lighting and all-glass, floor-to-ceiling wine cooler make for a stunning atmosphere. The music was classical and not at all intrusive.
After we were seated, Michael, our waiter and a wine expert, gave us the rundown of how The Capital Grille’s Generous Pour summer event works. We would have the opportunity to try all seven wines that made up the Generous Pour experience throughout our meal, four reds and three whites. If you’re a “wine is wine” kinda person, this date might surprise you, and if you’re a wine connoisseur, you’ll have an absolute blast.
My boyfriend and I love wine – Two Buck Chuck, that is – so we were looking forward to sampling some finer spirits and learning more about choice reds and whites from the Jackson Family wine collection.
Michael paired each wine with a course of our meal: whites for our fresh mozzarella appetizers, deep reds for our Steak and Sam’s Mashed Potatoes course and a sweet Zinfandel for our dessert course.
Anything we loved we were poured more of, and had we not liked any of the wines, we would have simply moved on to the next. However, Michael saw to it that every wine that touched our lips enhanced our palette to draw out the flavors of our delicious food.
As we finished our dinner the incredibly talented Chef David stopped by our table – and we asked if he wouldn’t mind coming to live with us permanently.
Although he politely declined, he offered to show us how The Capital Grille ages and seasons their steaks in house, a huge part of what differentiates Capital Grille from other Cincinnati steakhouses and the reason their steak tastes delicious.
As the evening came to a close we sipped coffee until we were ready to leave.
Once back in the car with our doggy bag full of tomorrow’s lunch and the The Capital Grille signature fresh-cut rose, we exchanged a look of, “Wow, that. was. amazing.”
